「第37回 武庫川学院 英語オラトリカルコンテスト」の本選大会が11月20日、中央キャンパスで開催され、大学・短大の部で英語文化学科3年、香川友里絵さんが優勝しました。

同大会は、学院の生徒・学生が英語学習の成果を発表する恒例のイベントです。本選には、予備審査と予選を通過した6人が出場。英語文化学科と英語キャリア・コミュニケーション学科の専任教員4人が審査し、大学・短大の部の優勝は香川友里絵さん（英語文化学科3年・英語特別クラス）、準優勝は森朱里さん（英語文化学科3年） に、それぞれ決まりました。

優勝した香川さんは“A Package of Life”と題したスピーチで、「毎日の生活で、私たちのために食肉として捧げられている命に感謝しよう」と訴え、準優勝の森さんは“Challenge Yourself” と題して「自信を持ち、新しいことに挑戦する姿勢で未来をひらこう」と呼びかけました。

審査委員長を務めた英語文化学科学科長の清水利宏教授（英語スピーチ・プレゼンテーション研究室）は表彰式で、「スピーチでは大げさな表現を控え、誠実な語りに徹してください」と講評しました。

本年度の本選出場者は以下の6人です（スピーチ発表順）。

The final round of Mukogawa Women’s University English Oratorical Contest celebrated its 37th champion.

On November 20th, Ms. Yurie Kagawa, a third year of the Department of English Culture, took the crown of the English oratorical championship, held at the main campus. The contest is an annual event where students at Mukogawa Women’s University demonstrates their English abilities through speech. The top 6 were chosen for the final round and all competed for the grand prize. The speeches were examined by 4 faculty members of the Department of English Culture and Department of English Career Communication.

Ms. Kagawa won for the Junior College and University division, Akari Mori from the Department of English Culture was the runner-up.

Ms. Kagawa, who won the contest, gave a speech under the title, “A Package of Life” and spoke of the feeling of gratitude towards animals that are used as meat. The runner-up, Ms. Mori on the other hand speech was about facing the future with confidence and being brave enough to take on new challenges, with the title “Challenge Yourself”.

Professor Toshihiro Shimizu, the dean of the Department of English Culture, who also served as the chair of the judging committee, commented at the award giving ceremony “Please refrain from exaggerating expressions in your speech and stick to a sincere one.”
