【武庫川女子大学】英語文化学科の嶋田愛さんが「谷本杯」全日本学生英語弁論大会で準優勝しました。

「第54回 谷本杯争奪 全日本学生英語弁論大会」(関西外国語大学英語研究会主催)が11月14日、オンライン上で開催され、本学英語文化学科英語特別クラス(ACE)4年生の嶋田愛さんが準優勝しました＝写真＝。決勝大会には、全国から予選を勝ち抜いた9名の学生が出場。英語によるスピーチと質疑応答で日頃の研鑽の成果を披露し、関西外国語大学の外国人教員ら4名が審査にあたりました。

嶋田さんは「Parents’ Affection」(親の愛情)の演題で発表。時に煩わしく響く親からの注意も、いつかはそれを聞くことはなくなる。それまでに、親からの真の愛情に心を開こうと呼びかけました。「2度目の全国大会入賞を果たせて嬉しいです。ゼミの仲間の支えや励ましのお陰で、自信を持って本番を迎えられました。卒業までに、この経験から得た学びを後輩に引き継ぎます」と話しています。

嶋田さんの指導教員で、自身も同じ「谷本杯」第22回大会の優勝者である清水利宏教授・英語文化学科長(英語スピーチ・プレゼンテーション研究室)は、「私の学生時代を象徴する大会で、指導学生が準優勝を収めたことは感慨深いです。スピーチに情熱を注ぐ青春の尊さが、今に受け継がれました」と喜びを話しています。

今年度、本学英語文化学科は、「福澤杯」(慶應義塾大学)英語弁論大会を含む4大会で上位入賞を達成。さらに、6年度連続の全国大会上位入賞の記録を更新中です。

On November 14th, the annual “Tanimoto Cup” English speech contest for students welcomed their 54th competition online which saw a student of Mukogawa Women’s University take second place. At the final round, top 9 university students from all over the country fought for the first place. A team of judges from Kansai Gaidai University watched, listened and examined the speeches.

Ms. Shimada presented a speech about “Parent’s Affection”. Parents and their need to attend to their child sometimes can become tiresome, yet it will someday and eventually fade away. She spoke of the necessity of welcoming and accepting such attention as unconditional love. She quotes “I’m happy to be able to participate and be rewarded with a certification in an event like this for the second time. I was able to get this far with all the love and support from my peers, I hope that I was a good enough role models for students who will be taking on my legacy and hope to help them with their speeches before graduation.”

Professor Shimizu, who is Ms. Shimada’s teacher in charge as well as a participant and a winner himself of the same contest claimed “I am moved that a student of mine became the runner-up at a tournament that symbolizes something deep inside me back when I was a student. It’s wonderful to witness the preciousness of youth which transpired in one’s passionate speech, has been passed down to this day.”
