【武庫川女子大学】食物栄養学科の学生が参加する学生ボランティアグループが、日本糖尿病協会から表彰されました

Students from the Department of Food and Nutrition commended for their participation in Hyogo Children with Diabetes Summer Camp Volunteer Group.

本学の食物栄養学科の学生が30年以上にわたり活動している「兵庫県小児糖尿病サマーキャンプ 学生ボランティアグループ」が、日本糖尿病協会から「小児糖尿病功労賞」を授与されました。

この賞は「サマーキャンプの運営、小児糖尿病の医療等に原則として10年以上貢献のあった者」に贈られます。「兵庫県小児糖尿病サマーキャンプ 学生ボランティアグループ」は神戸大学医学部医学科・保健学科と本学食物栄養学科から毎年約40人ずつが参加・活動し、これまでに2400人以上が関わってきたボランティア団体です。

現在、本学からは食物栄養学科の52人（1年生18人、2年生13人、3年生11人、4年生10人）が参加しています。

例年は夏休みに兵庫県立南但馬自然学校で、1型糖尿病の子どもたち3～40人と行う4泊5日のキャンプに同行し、キャンプファイヤーやゲーム大会、低学年と高学年に分かれた勉強会などのイベントを行っています。今年はコロナ禍の影響で現地でのキャンプは無くなりましたが、10月にバーチャルサマーキャンプが実施されます。3日間に分けて開催され、都道府県ごとの取り組みの発表と、子どもたちにサマーキャンプを知ってもらう、または継続して参加してもらえる機会を作ることを目的として実施されます。

学生たちはその実施に向け、3月からミーティングや勉強会を重ね、さらに当日流す動画を作成してきました。また、継続して行われる月1回の勉強会は、オンラインで4月から実施しています。

学生は「昨年はコロナ禍で、キャンプだけでなく勉強会やミーティングもできませんでした。2年連続でキャンプができないのは残念ですが、オンラインという形でキャンパーの子供たちとまた繋がれることは嬉しく思います」と話しています。

また、今回の受賞について「この度は小児糖尿病功労賞を授与いただき、大変嬉しく思います。今回ご推薦いただいた先生方、スタッフの皆様、またこれまで活動を繋いでこられた先輩方に感謝申し上げます。コロナ禍によって今年はオンライン開催となってしまいましたが、受賞を機にさらにボランティアの輪が広がることを願い、ますます励んでいきたいと思います」と話し、思いを新たにしました。

At Mukogawa Women’s University, it has been a 30 year tradition for students of Department of Food and Nutrition to be a part of Hyogo Children with Diabetes Summer Camp Volunteer Group. And this year they were awarded with a particular honor for their work by the Japan Association for Diabetes. This award is given to those who have played an active role in operation of summer camps and medical care for diabetics for a length of 10 or more years.  

Hyogo Children with Diabetes Summer Camp Volunteer Group is an organization comprised of about 40 people from Kobe University and more than 2,400 people have been involved so far.

52 Department of Food and Nutrition Mukogawa Women’s University students are taking part. Every summer, during summer vacation period, a 4 night and 5 days camp take place at Minami Tajima Nature School. The Mukogawa Women’s University students accompany 3 to 40 children with type 1 diabetes to play games, have study sessions, and have campfires and so on.  Sadly, there will be no camp as such this year, instead it will be shifted on to online where a virtual summer camp will be held. It’ll be a 3 day course with announcements from a number of prefectures presenting and promoting of the existence of the society.

Since March, the students have had study sessions and meetings to make videos to show at the virtual camp. One student says “It’s been unfortunate how we haven’t been able to have been able to meet as a group in person to discuss about our plans. It’s one thing not being able to have the camp one summer, let alone for 2 years in a row. So we hope that having one online this year will encourage children to open up and reconnect. We’re privileged to be given a recognition for our efforts, and we want to thank those who has helped us along the way, teachers and staff included. Even though it’ll be held online, we hope it creates opportunities for those involved and heighten the work of volunteering.”
